NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY, NEWCASTLE, UK

HISTORY

Originally known as Newcastle Polytechnic, the University was formed in 1969 from the amalgamation of three regional colleges: Rutherford College of Technology, the College of Art & Industrial Design, and the Municipal College of Commerce.

CAMPUS LOCATION

Since the start of this century, the University has consolidated its presence on two major campuses in Newcastle upon Tyne – one in the city centre and the other in a suburban location on the edge of the city, at Coach Lane. The University is one of North East England’s major employers.

The University completed the building of a £31m sports centre for the benefit of staff, students and members of the public in September 2010.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF SPORT, EXERCISE & REHABILITATION

Northumbria has been delivering programmes in sport, exercise and rehabilitation for over 30 years and is one of the “top 10” sport Universities in the UK.

Students have the opportunity to learn in a friendly, open and supportive environment. Many programmes offered are accredited and endorsed by professional and national governing bodies, which help to ensure that graduates have the right attributes for the profession of their choice.

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - RIVER FALLS

Founded in 1874, the University of Wisconsin – River Falls (UWRF) is a member of the prestigious University of Wisconsin System. Located in a safe and welcoming community, UWRF is a small campus of 5,958 students offering more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs.

UWRF and SSTC share similar philosophies when it comes to education. Both institutions believe in small class sizes and high quality education, that students are individuals, and that the quality of education cannot be sacrificed for growth. UWRF and SSTC have signed a Credit Transfer Agreement to collaborate on a pathway program for students to start their undergraduate education at SSTC in Singapore and then complete their undergraduate education at UWRF.

AACSB Accreditation

The College of Business and Economics (CBE) at UWRF is accredited by AACSB, a distinction earned by less than 5% of business schools worldwide. This accreditation requires CBE to meet rigorous standards of AACSB, which includes managing resources to achieve a vibrant and relevant mission, high-caliber teaching of quality and current curricula, faculty scholarship, and meaningful interaction between students and faculty.
Since employers look for candidates from AACSB-accredited schools, graduating from CBE at UWRF will give graduates an advantage over applicants from non-AACSB accredited schools.
