Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM)

The DTHM is designed for individuals who aspire to start a career in the tourism and hospitality industry. It provides students with an understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry.

The programme focuses on

  • equipping students with knowledge, understanding and skills for a career in the tourism and hospitality industry
  • developing the student’s ability in the field through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different modules of the programme
  • developing a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and thereby enabling students to make an immediate contribution to employment.

Programme Duration

Full-time 6 months coursework
+ 6 months Industrial Attachment (IA)*

*INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT (IA) REQUIREMENTS
Students must satisfy the following requirements to be eligible for the Industrial Attachment (IA) component:
Age
Must be at least 18 years old on commencement of the IA
Academic
Successfully PASSED all 8 modules
Course Attendance Requirement
• Maintained their course attendance rate of at least 90%
• Pass an interview/selection process
• Students who do not meet the above requirements OR did not succeed in securing an Industrial Attachment OR were not successful in obtaining approval for the required Work Pass from the Ministry of Manpower, will have to complete a Research Project (12 weeks)

Programme Structure

Monday – Friday (15 hours/week)

Mode of Delivery

Guided learning hours consist of lectures, tutorials, group discussions, project meetings.

Assessment

Written assignments, class presentations and projects. No formal examinations.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicant must be 17 years and above.
  • Completed at least Year 10 OR 2 GCE ‘O’ Level Passes or its equivalent.
  • English Proficiency of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.

Appropriately experienced applicants who do not fully meet the minimum academic requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Attendance Criteria

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority requires Student’s Pass holders to maintain an attendance of at least 90%. Students who attended at least 75% of lessons are eligible for a Certificate of Attendance.
