COURSE INFORMATION
Certificate in English Communication
This course is designed to improve the key skills areas of English Language Proficiency.
It is structured into 2 modules.
At each module, special attention is given to the 3 macro-skills of Listening, Speaking and Use.
SSTC uses FLAME (First Language Assimilation Method for English) teaching methodology.
Objective
Module 1
Module 1 aims to build a basic foundation in a student’s language proficiency. Students will be exposed to lexis that is needed to cope with everyday spoken communications needed when travelling and performing basic working functions.
Module 2
Module 2 builds on the skills gained in Module 1, and expands to include more detailed communication in the workplace, social situations, and public life.
Programme Structure
Monday to Friday
3hr Session in the morning
or
3hr Session in the afternoon
Mode Of Delivery
Lessons are held three hours a day – there is a morning session, mid-day session and afternoon session. Each classroom is equipped with a color projector and whiteboard. Teachers conduct interactive lessons supported by Powerpoint slides and use the whiteboard as needed. CEC lessons focus on useful speaking and listening skills. Students are required to speak English in class everyday. Students are expected to take good notes during each lesson and review those notes for homework each night.
Admission Criteria
As these are very basic English modules, there are no academic admission criteria requirements for entry
Progression Criteria
Average of 75% or higher from three monthly assessments in each Module
Graduation Criteria
Completion of Module 2 with assessment score of 75% or higher
Attendance Criteria
All students need to attend at least 75% of classes and to be eligible for a certificate of attendance.
Students’ Pass holders are required to maintain an attendance of 90% and above to meet the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority requirement.

Educational Pathway
This is a language programme and not an educational pathway. Students who complete this programme may proceed to the Certificate in General English to improve their reading and writing skills.
